Roast of Al Siebring

Join us on October 20th at the Cowichan Golf Club for a fun-filled evening of happy memories and maybe a few embarrassing stories with our very own Al Siebring before he heads off over the mountains and into the sunset of retirement.
Let's send him off in style.
Norm Jackson will be our Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
A gourmet buffet dinner will be served, including salads, roasted veggies, beef and salmon, or vegetarian main courses, desserts, tea and coffee. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening.

Al has been in our community for a long time He grew up on a small family dairy farm on Cobble Hill and went on to a long and fascinating career in broadcast radio, as a bookstore owner, as a councillor and then finally as the mayor for North Cowichan.
Al has served on pretty much every committee that's existed, everything from Public Works to Forestry and Protective Services - and for the entire time of elected office, he's also been on the CVRD Commission that governs the operation of the Cowichan Community Centre, serving six years as Chair of that body. Additionally, for the past six years, Al has been part of the UBCM's "Local Government Contract Management Committee," a province-wide group that oversees the administration and application of the RCMP contract between the federal and provincial governments and municipalities around BC. In that role, he has frequently been on the phone with mayors from across the Island and the Province, who have been asking for advice on policing contract matters.
Al and his wife Anne have 11 grandchildren, all of whom reside in Central Alberta. And that's the reason for his retirement and his move to that area. Al recently passed his entrance exam for membership in the "National Association of Parliamentarians." In retirement, he'll be working with municipalities, Regional Districts, and non-profits as a governance consultant, advising on best governance practices, Robert's Rules of Order, and other issues relating to the things he's learned in his time in local government.
But mostly, he and Anne are just looking forward to spending time with those 11 grandkids.
