Meet the Speakers

Mayor Phil Kent was first elected to Duncan Council in 1999 and has been the City's Mayor since 2005. Mayor Kent has served as Vice Chair of the Cowichan Valley Region District Board and Chair of Regional Services.

Mayor Kent has a long history of community involvement and currently serves as Chair of the Island Coastal Economic Development Trust, the CVRD Economic Development Commission, is a Director of the Island Corridor Foundation and the Chair of Cowichan Success by Six Council of Partners.
Mayor Kent has been self-employed in business for over three decades, and holds certificates in Business Management, Strategic Planning from Royal Roads University and Sustainable Community Development from Simon Fraser University.

Christan Hiscock is an entrepreneur and public speaker best-known for his diverse business portfolio and visionary perspective. From business services, to finance and real estate, Christan has invested in, acquired and founded several successful ventures spanning a myriad of industries.

Christan’s mission is to inspire others to see their own worth so that they can live truly fulfilled lives. His belief is that fulfillment is an internal state of happiness that can’t be measured, compared or judged. Christan aims to help people define happiness based on personal fulfilment, instead of by traditional measures of success.

In focusing on leadership, productive teams and business development, Christan continues to partner with heart-centred entrepreneurs who aim to make money and do good things for others at the same time, whilst pursuing fulfilment and helping communities thrive.
