Join the members of the Cowichan Wooden Boat Society for a fun evening with the internationally acclaimed Shifty Sailors, a 16-member maritime singing group from Whidbey Island, Washington. Although close neighbours, this is the Shifties first tour to the Island. They have performed their traditional shanty and other seafaring music as far afield as Eastern Europe and Hawaii. Visit their website (www.shiftysailors.net) for a musical taste! Performing on the pier at the Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre on Saturday, September 12 at 7 p.m., guests will enjoy songs and shanties from their six CD?s, also for sale at the concert. One of only four Canadian appearances this year, their Vancouver Island tour will kick-off in Cowichan Bay. As the Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre is owned and operated by the non-profit Cowichan Wooden Boat Society, the community's involvement with fundraisers such as this is greatly appreciated. It helps the Society to actively work to preserve, instruct and develop the skills of wooden boat building and related arts. Entry includes nautical appetizers with drinks available. We guarantee you'll leave humming the music and perhaps even clutching a CD for future enjoyment!
