Adrian Legin, President & CEO of Coastal Community Credit Union is the guest speaker at the Feb. 20 Chamber Luncheon. Mr. Legin will speak on his experiences in Emilia-Romagna, one of Europe’s most prosperous regions, and lessons that could be applied to Vancouver Island and the Cowichan Valley. He recently participated in an economic development study of Emilia-Romagna, where co-ops and credit unions account for 30% of the economy, and unemployment rates are among the lowest in Europe. Mr. Legin feels that we can learn much from Emilia-Romagna in building a more prosperous regional economy. Its thousands of small businesses and co-ops have a reputation for working co-operatively and collaboratively, and for cultivating a regional brand based on very high quality goods and services – including world-renowned foods and wines.
