DESCRIPTION:The Chamber\, together with Island Savings\, is delighted to welcome Dr. Ralph Nilson\, President and Vice-Chancellor of Vancouver Island University\, as the guest of honour for this Speaker Series Luncheon. \n\n\n\nVancouver Island University was founded as a vocational school in 1936   today it is celebrating 10 years as a university. During this period there has been unprecedented growth for VIU and the regions it serves. In his talk Dr. Ralph Nilson\, VIU's President and Vice-Chancellor\, will unveil VIU's latest Economic Impact Study results. He will share stories highlighting the critical role VIU plays in driving the regional economy and addressing societal challenges\, and the impact the university will have on the future of the region\, with a specific focus on how the institution benefits and supports a range of community stakeholders.\n\n\n\nThe Luncheon will begin at 11:30 am with an opportunity to network\, coffee and tea provided.  The presentation will begin promptly at 12:00 pm.  Advance bookings are required. RALPH NILSON: Dr. Nilson has extensive teaching and administrative experience at undergraduate and graduate levels in universities across Canada and the United States. He developed an active research program in physical activity\, population health and community development. Dr. Nilson advocates for excellence in teaching and scholarship.  He has been actively engaged in working with communities and recognizes the important role of the university in the economic and social prosperity of the region it serves. His active support for building capacity in aboriginal communities through access to education\, has been evidence throughout his career.
